Every year, the city centre of Cologne is touched by the magic of the festivities in the run-up to Christmas. When the Christmas markets in Cologne open their gates on the last Monday before Advent, millions of visitors from around the world delight at the goods on sale at the quaintly designed huts (or "Buden").

Christmas music, arts and crafts, toys, Christmas decorations and the scent of the Christmas bakeries create a wonderful atmosphere. It is not just children's eyes that light up when pewter pourers, wreath binders and glassblowers demonstrate their art, and the aroma of mulled wine, hot chestnuts and gingerbread fills the air.

In front of the impressive backdrop of Cologne's landmark, the Cathedral christmas market awaits visitors with its 160 attractively designed wooden pavilions.
Cologne's oldest Christmas market is held on the Neumarkt, the city centre market in the shopping district. Visitors will be enchanted by this lovingly decorated Christmas marktet.
In a picturesque setting overlooking the Rhine, the Cologne Harbour Christmas market at the Chocolate Museum will bring again the gateway to the Rheinauhafen to life and give festive Cologne a maritime flavour.
Probably the most attractive christmas market is the one on the Alter Markt in front of Cologne´s town hall. Children in particular, will find here their Christmas paradise.
The Christmas Market on the Rudolfplatz takes you to the world of fairy tales. Large fairy tale figures and festive illumination provide a special eye-catcher.
