Events + Concerts: Highlights 2015

The variety of event venues and its outstanding surroundings make Cologne an attractive location for all kinds of events. Many large and small events throughout the year, like the world-famous "Kölner Karneval" street carnival and the spectacular "Kölner Lichter" fireworks, invite visitors to join in the celebrations and the crème de la crème of pop and rock will be playing in Cologne in 2015. January 19 to 25, 2015
Every year in January, so this year too, supplieres and decision-malers from all of the key markets come together in Cologne in order to lay the foundations for tomorrow's business. At the first interior design trade fair of the year, imm cologne presents the trends which dominate the interior design market. For seven days 1,157 suppliers from 54 countries and 115,000 visitors coming from 118 countries had their trend time in Cologne. And the new event LivingInteriors answered the questions of the new emphasis on the holistic home and the development of the market.

Queen
January 29, 2015
Queen will once again be rocking it live! The legendary band will be taking their spectacular show on tour at the beginning of 2015, and will be making a stop in Germany. Cologne Carnival
12th - 17th February 2015

The "fifth season of the year" as Carnival is called, begins on November 11th at 11:11 a.m. But the real "crazy days" do not start before the so-called Weiberfastnacht (Shrove Thursday), the Thursday before Rosenmontag (Carnival Monday). The "crazy days" of Carnival are celebrated with parties on the streets, in public squares and in pubs. Closing times for pubs and bars are suspended for the duration of the festival.

Lionel Richie
February 24, 2015
Lionel Richie has been performing on stage for over 30 years and has retained much of his original style. Pop is his thing – from his beginnings with The Commodores, to his ballads of the 80s, and right through to his up-tempo hits of the 90s. He will be entertaining his Cologne fans on the Lanxess-Arena stage on the 24 February from 8pm.

Usher
March 2, 2015
Usher will be firing up his fans with his explosive charge of hits from his 20 year career on the 2 March at 8:30pm in the Cologne Lanxess-Arena. Alongside Nico & Vinz, he’ll be performing the “UR Experience” – renditions of earlier and more recent songs, as well as music from his 8th studio album, which is currently in the making.

20 dates have been announced for the “Prismatic-World-Tour”, and four of them will be in Germany in March 2015. Perry has chosen the Lanxess-Arena for her concert in Cologne on the 5 March. This is a big step for the minister’s daughter: last time she was in the Cathedral City she played a sold-out concert to 4000 fans in Palladium – this time she’ll be on stage from 8pm in front of four times as many fans.

And a magical experience it promises to be. Since being immortalised in 2012 with the 2475th star on the “Walk of Fame” in the heart of Hollywood, 73-year-old Neil Diamond has had no time for any type of artistic break: the American will be crossing the pond in 2015 to perform in Europe. And his fans in Cologne will be able to enjoy one of his two concerts in Germany: on the 17 June the composer of hits such as "Sweet Caroline", "Song sung blue", "Red red Wine" and "I'm a Believer" will be in the spotlight at the Lanxess-Arena.

AC/DC

The Australian rock band AC/DC are planning an open-air concert in Cologne during their world tour in 2015. They want to play to around 80,000 fans on the 19 June at the Jahnwiese – the meadows alongside the Rheinenergie-Stadium. The city has agreed to the performance taking place, which is a prerequisite if the area is to be used for a special purpose. The gig is part of the tour promoting their new album “Rock or Bust”. Taylor Swift
June 19 and 20, 2015
She has the world at her feet – and now she’s coming to visit you: in 2015, US star Taylor Swift is heading off on a grand tour of four continents. The European tour kicks off with a double concert on the 19 and 20 June 2015 in Cologne. She’ll be in the spotlight at the Lanxess-Arena both evenings from 8pm.

Masters of the pop métier like no other and with their own unique look, Roxette will be kicking off their Germany tour on the 24 June at 8pm in the Lanxess-Arena. With hits from their current album “Room Service” - which includes brand new songs but sounds like it should be a Greatest Hits compilation, Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson will be using the Rhine as the starting point for their tour of the country. Summerjam

With the arrival of summer, things heat up at Fühlinger Lake: the traditional Summerjam festival takes place in July. Among the artists making an appearance at the reggae festival are Sees and Jimmy Cliff. The location in itself is a highlight, but every year in July things are turned up a notch: Reggae and Dancehall fans flood the area and turn the Fühlinger lake, its banks, and Regatta island into an unparalleled festival site.

CSD
July 5th, 2015
For many years now, Cologne has established itself as one of Europe's centres for gay and lesbian life. The most important event in the gay and lesbian calendar is the Christopher Street Day (CSD). Every year on the first weekend of July half a million participants and visitors celebrate and demonstrate in the city centre. The ColognePride festival taking place from 20th June to 5th July 2015. The parade is the highlight of the countless events and street parties.

Cologne Lights
July 11, 2015
In mid-July, the "Kölner Lichter" light up the sky in flames. The impressive firework display is synchronised with music and transforms the view of the Rhine into a colourful sea of banyan lights, waterfalls and hundreds of thousands of sparklers. A huge convoy of ships marks the crowning finale of a colourful celebration, which has taken its course during the day in the Old Town.

Gamescom
August 5 to 9, 2015
From  5 to 9 August, Cologne will be transformed into a Mecca for gamers. At Gamescom, the trade show for interactive games and entertainment, exhibitors will be showcasing all novelties in the gaming sector. The latest computer and console games will be on display in the large ‘entertainment area’. Visitors can test out the games even before their release. Find out more

Köln Marathon

The RheinEnergieMarathon Cologne will take place on October 5, 2015. Enjoy the fast and interesting course through downtown, a unique post-finish refreshment area and uncomparable spectators. It does not matter whether you are a running amateur or experienced marathoner, an offspring talent or competitive athlete, an individualist or member of a team - Here not only arouse the top athletes cheering enthusiam among the spectators. Carnival begins
November 11, 2015
It’s not long now until Cologne will once again link arms and sway along in time to the music: On the 11 November, up to 70,000 carnival revellers will come together on Heumarkt square to celebrate the opening of the new carnival season. Revellers from Cologne and carnival goers from the rest of the world, together with the three chief carnival figures (Prince, Peasant and Maiden who make up the Cologne Dreigestirn – the trio – and who are the highest representatives of the Cologne carnival) and traditional Cologne carnival bands will transform the square in the centre of the city into a carnivaltastic madhouse.
