The German Sport & Olympic Museum in the centre of Cologne presents the World of Sport from antiquity up to the present day covering an area of more than 2,000 m². In an historic customs building on the banks of the Rhine you can experience a fascinating journey through 2,500 years of sport and Olympic history, with unique exhibits from ancient Greek athletics to the professional sport of the 21st century. Special exhibitions at regular intervals explore contemporary and historical themes.

Hands-on activities, sporting activities, multifaceted tours, state-of-the-art museum education and facilities for staging events of every conceivable type make the German Sport & Olympic Museum an attractive venue for those interested in sport and culture. A visit to the Bistro on the Rhine Terrace rounds off a unique experience

The fascinating world of sport

In the German Sport and Olympic Museum, a lively and multifaceted exhibition awaits you. From our collection of more than 120,000 exhibits we have selected over 2,000 original items to present to you: “Kaiser Franz’s” football boots, Boris Becker’s tennis racquet, Max Schmeling’s World Championship boxing ring, Michael Schumacher’s Benetton Renault, the ball from the 2007 World Handball Champions and much, much more.

Ever played football above the roofs of Cologne before?

What would the German Sport & Olympic Museum be without sporting activities? Be it playing football or tennis on Cologne’s highest sports ground, testing your boxing skills in the ring, participating in team callisthenics as in the time of Jahn, the Father of German Gymnastics, or pedalling hard in the wind tunnel, find out what sport is all about!

Knowledge is fun

Our diverse range of museum educational programme of events for school classes of all ages, groups, organisations and families ensure that a museum visit is both entertaining and instructive.

Celebrations – Conferences – Discussions
